BOTOX® Cosmetic FAQs

Are Botox injections painful?

These injections are not painful. A numbing cream is applied to the surface of your skin. You may feel a mild pinch as the needle is inserted, but it’s manageable for all of our patients.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Safe?

BOTOX® Cosmetic has an excellent safety record. When researching “BOTOX safety” on the internet, take note of whether you are reading about the cosmetic version. There is also BOTOX® for medical applications, including muscle spasms. The two applications have unique safety profiles. BOTOX® Cosmetic has a low risk of side effects when injected by an experienced, qualified professional.

What are the potential Botox side effects?

Most of our patients do not experience side effects; however, it would be normal to experience localized pain, redness, swelling, soreness, and bruising at the injection site that dissipates within a few days.

How does Botox work?

It safely blocks the nerve impulses leading to specific muscle contractions in your face. It does not affect other muscles, which is why we can tailor the results, preserving natural expression in the areas you want it and smoothing wrinkles in other areas of the face.

When will I see results from Botox injections?

You may see an immediate effect, but most people first see a difference about 3-5 days after their appointment. The best results become apparent within 7-10 days. Wait at least 2 weeks before making any final judgment about your results and whether you want a touch-up.

How long do Botox injections last?

BOTOX® Cosmetic tends to last for 3-4 months before the effects fade. A re-injection will quickly restore the results.

Will it give me a frozen look?

Not when it is performed by an experienced BOTOX® provider. Our skilled injectors use a very fine needle to inject precise amounts of the medication into targeted areas of the face. Because of their experience, they know how much of the material is needed to bring about the effect you want. And they know exactly where to inject it.

What’s Botox treatment process like?

You will first visit us for a one-on-one consultation so we can make sure BOTOX® is the right match for what you want to achieve. The actual injection appointment involves relaxing in the comfortable treatment chair while the experienced injector specialist administers BOTOX®.

It takes just a few minutes to complete the injections. You can go right back to work or other activities you had planned that day. It’s possible the injection site will be red and a little sore for several hours. Redness can be covered with cosmetics.

With BOTOX®, you will come to just this single treatment session to get the results you want. Multiple sessions are not required, aside from coming back several months later to touch up the effect.

How much does Botox cost?

The total cost will vary by an individual because we make sure the treatment is tailored to your needs. We provide you with a cost estimate at the time of your consultation. An average treatment for frown lines costs between $300-$450.

Does Botox work for migraines?

BOTOX® injections have been shown to be effective for the prevention of migraines. We can administer the injections at precise locations in the neck and head. While there is no guarantee, many patients have found headache relief from this treatment.

Gummy Smile and BOTOX

Exaggerated upper lip retraction during smiling can result in a gummy smile with the excessive gingival show. Gummy smiles associated with deep nasolabial folds result from contraction of the levator labii superioris alaeque nasi muscle. Treatment of the levator labii surperioris alaeque nasi with Botox inhibits muscle contraction, which lengthens the upper lip reducing gingival show, and also reduces nasolabial folds. This simple yet temporary (4 months) treatment avoids more expensive and complicated surgery yielding results within a few days.
