Voluma®

Over time, the volume in our face can diminish and cause our face to have a hollow appearance. The Food and Drug Administration has recently approved Voluma, a dermal filler from Allergan, that is especially formulated to add volume to temple hollows, cheeks and the jawline. Our skincare team at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute in Seattle has extensive knowledge and training in using dermal fillers to achieve amazing results for our patients.

What is VOLUMA®?

VOLUMA® is an injectable facial filler made of hyaluronic acid, which is a hydrating ingredient found in our own skin. As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid and our skin starts to look less full and young. Areas of our face can become sagging or hollow as we lose more volume over time. VOLUMA replaces some of the hyaluronic acid in our skin that we’ve lost with time. The hyaluronic acid in VOLUMA is thick enough to allow the injectable gel to disperse steadily in the skin. When FDA approved VOLUMA is injected into the cheek area, it lifts and contours the cheeks to provide a more youthful appearance. VOLUMA treatments can also be used on patients who desire a more prominent chin.

Am I a good candidate for VOLUMA®?

If you are unsatisfied with your face’s increasingly sunken or sagging appearance, then you should consider receiving VOLUMA injections by the dermal filler experts at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute in Seattle. The best candidates for VOLUMA are those who want to reverse the signs of aging and return their face to a fuller appearance. VOLUMA is a great option for patients who want a non-surgical procedure that will provide noticeable and natural results. VOLUMA can also be used in conjunction with facial plastic surgery. The dermatology specialists at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute are committed to providing quality care and treatment for each patient.

VOLUMA® FAQ

Our skincare team at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute in Seattle want to aid potential patients in deciding which dermal filler treatment is right for them. Here is a compilation of some frequently asked questions regarding VOLUMA.

Are VOLUMA® injections painful?

While dermal filler injections usually do not cause any pain, our dermatology specialists at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute can utilize topical numbing cream for patients who are especially concerned. Our expert clinical staff strives to make sure that patients are comfortable during the injection procedure. As an added bonus, VOLUMA® contains lidocaine (a numbing agent that goes into the skin during the injection).

What results can I expect from VOLUMA®?

While individual results will vary from patient to patient, VOLUMA® has been shown to provide lasting effects for up to two years. You can expect VOLUMA® to provide volume to the face, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Our dermal filler experts at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute in Seattle are committed to ensuring that they meet your needs while also giving you a natural look that is not overdone. While the effects of VOLUMA® are not the same as facial plastic surgery, patients wanting to maintain their new youthful look are able to return to Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute in Seattle for VOLUMA® touch-ups, as needed.

Does VOLUMA® treat wrinkles and fine lines?

VOLUMA® was specially formulated to reverse volume loss in the face and is the only filler that is FDA approved to add volume to the cheek area. VOLUMA® is best when injected deep into the skin to fill out hollow areas of the face. The dermatology specialists at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute in Seattle would recommend dermal fillers other than VOLUMA® for wrinkle treatment, such as Juvederm®, and Restylane®. These dermal fillers are more suited to treat wrinkles and fine lines that are located superficially on the skin.

Does VOLUMA® have side effects?

All injectable treatments come with the risk of side effects; however, VOLUMA® has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to provide volume and a natural lift to the face. Typical side effects may include minor itching, redness, swelling, and bruising around the treatment area. These side effects should not last longer than a few days. However, should they persist for more than one week, you should contact our office.
