Skin of Color
Dermatology for Today’s Global Community
Currently, 28% of the US population are persons with skin of color. It is projected that by the year 2050, African Americans, American Indians, Asians and Latinos will represent more than half of the US population. This increased diversity requires a greater understanding of racial and ethnic variations in the prevalence, clinical presentation, and optimal treatment approaches to medical and aesthetic dermatologic concerns. Here at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute of Seattle we have experience in treating a broad range of skin types. Having an expertise in skin of color means you have to be able to treat medical conditions and be aware of cultural conditions at the same time. Since people of color represent the fastest growing segment of cosmetic therapy, it is important as never before to find a doctor with expertise in all cosmetic modalities, as well as in ethnicity. Expertise in Diagnosis and Treatment There are numerous skin problems which either disproportionately affect people of color or require special evaluation techniques and treatments.
