If your lips are on the thinner side, whether due to age or genetics, you can plump them up with lip fillers. Unlike plumping lip glosses that may give you a tiny, temporary boost, lip fillers will give you dramatic, lasting results.
Fillers are considered the best way to plump up the lips because they’re longer-lasting than any topical product and much less invasive (and often give better results) than surgical lip implants. If you’re interested in volumizing your lips, call the Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute of Seattle today at 206-402-4797 to schedule your consultation.
What Is the Best Lip Filler for You?
There are a variety of dermal fillers that can be used to plump and shape the lips. Some of the most popular are:
- Juvederm
- Restylane
Juvederm and Restylane both have a number of different types of fillers under their brand names, targeted at different kinds of cosmetic issues. If you’re looking for subtle, natural enhancement, we may recommend Restylane Silk or Juvederm Volbella. If you want a more dramatic look, Juvederm Voluma may be appropriate.
There is no overall “best” option when it comes to dermal fillers. Instead, Dr. Greene will work to understand your goals and recommend the most appropriate filler to get you the look you want.
What to Expect from a Lip Filler Treatment
Lip filler injections are a fairly short procedure, generally lasting no more than 20 minutes. We’ll numb your lips so you don’t feel any pain, and gently add filler into the lips at key points. Some patients may benefit from having two different kinds of filler injected, one for volume and one for more delicate shaping.
After your treatment, you can expect:
- Some swelling and bruising that can last for a few days to a week
- To keep your head elevated
- To ice your lips frequently
- To need makeup to cover your bruising for a few days
The lips are one of the most sensitive areas of the face, so filler recovery tends to be a little bit more intense than fillers to other parts of the face. However, most patients find that the recovery is very tolerable, and the results are worth it.
Keep in mind that the appearance of your lips immediately after treatment is not your final result. Swelling can make your lips appear bigger than you wanted, but don’t panic. The swelling will subside over the next few days and you’ll see your final results.
Some patients find that they love the appearance of their swollen lips and are disappointed when the swelling goes down. If that’s the case, it’s an easy fix: just come in again to have more filler added.
