Double chins can be unsightly and embarrassing. Fat under the chin can be resistant to diet and exercise, and people who are otherwise fit and toned can still be stuck with stubborn chin fat that’s nearly impossible to get rid of.
If you struggle with a double chin, Kybella® could help you get rid of that unfortunate feature and improve your facial contour without the need for surgery or downtime. At Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute of Seattle, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Steven Greene and his team have decades of experience helping patients look and feel their best. We can help you decide if Kybella is the best option for you.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a non-surgical injectable treatment designed to target and eliminate chin fat. It serves as an alternative to liposuction, an invasive surgical fat-removal procedure that requires anesthesia, incisions, and downtime.
The active ingredient in Kybella is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is naturally produced by your body to help you break down and absorb fat. When Kybella is injected into the fat underneath your chin, the acid will destroy the fat cells. After your treatment, the obliterated fat will be naturally filtered out by your body’s metabolic processes.
Am I a Candidate for Kybella?
Generally, good Kybella candidates:
- Have excess fat underneath their chin
- Feel unhappy, embarrassed, or self-conscious about their chin fat
- Have chin fat that makes them look older or fatter than they are
- Want to eliminate their chin fat without surgery
- Exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet, but still can’t get rid of chin fat
You should inform our team if you have had facial plastic surgery or are planning to have facial plastic surgery. Doing so could negatively impact your Kybella results. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should wait until their child stops nursing before getting Kybella.
What is the Kybella Procedure?
Before your procedure, we’ll mark the injection sites under your chin and administer a topical numbing agent to help alleviate any pain or discomfort. Typically, you’ll need 12-20 injections per treatment, although some people get as many as 50 in a single procedure. The process should take about 15 minutes.
You should see noticeable results after about two to four treatments spaced one month apart. Some patients may need up to six treatments to achieve full results. Fat cells never return once they’ve been destroyed, so your outcome should be permanent.
Does Kybella Require Any Downtime?
You may experience some redness, swelling, and bruising around your treatment area in the immediate aftermath of your treatment. These should resolve within a week.
Other than that, you will not need to take any time off or make special considerations for your recovery. You should be able to jump back into your routine immediately.

Laser Genesis is a gentle, effective laser treatment that can help with a variety of issues, including both wrinkles and acne. It’s a great option to help you achieve beautiful, glowing skin no matter your age or skin color. Some lasers aren’t suitable for darker toned skin, but Laser Genesis is non-ablative and appropriate for all skin tones.
If you’re interested in a Laser Genesis treatment, don’t hesitate to contact Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute of Seattle today by calling 206-402-4797. We’ll be happy to set you up with a skin care consultation to see if Laser Genesis is a good option for your concerns.
How Does Laser Genesis Treat Acne and Wrinkles?
Laser Genesis works by gently heating the dermis layer of the skin, stimulating collagen production and leading to improved skin elasticity, tone, and texture. This in turn leads to a reduction in wrinkles, as well as acne scars and other skin irregularities.
Laser Genesis also tightens pores and decreases oil production, which helps improve active acne. For some patients, Laser Genesis may be enough to fully treat their acne. For others, a combination of Laser Genesis and another, stronger acne treatment may be best.
Dr. Greene will examine your skin and let you know what he thinks is the best way to embark on your acne treatment journey. Acne is unique to each patient, and what works for one may not work for another. Acne treatment requires patience, but stick with it and you’ll eventually have the clear skin you dream of.
Is Laser Genesis Right for You?
Laser Genesis can be beneficial for almost everyone. You may want to give it a try if:
- You’re beginning to see fine lines and wrinkles
- You have active acne or acne scars
- You have uneven skin tone or rough skin texture
- You want to improve the appearance of your pores
- You’re interested in regular skin maintenance
Laser Genesis can be used together with other treatments such as:
Since Laser Genesis is so gentle, we recommend using it as a regular maintenance treatment to keep your skin looking beautiful after undergoing other, more intensive treatments. You can also see results using Laser Genesis by itself, especially if you already have youthful skin. It’s a wonderful preventative treatment to keep skin smooth and glowing.
If you’re looking for dramatic results after one treatment, Laser Genesis is not the most appropriate treatment. Results are gradual, with maximum improvement after around 6 sessions. You’ll definitely notice a difference, but it won’t be as dramatic as some other laser treatments that we offer.

You don’t suddenly start aging when you get your first wrinkle. Instead, aging is a process that begins long before its visible signs appear. This means that, if you wait until you’re middle-aged to start anti-aging treatments, you’re already decades behind. The best way to treat indications of aging is to prevent them.
This is where prejuvenation comes in. By beginning anti-aging treatments when the aging process actually starts, you can stay ahead of it and maintain a youthful, vigorous appearance as your peers wonder why you look so good.
