What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that utilizes tiny, sterile needles to create micro-wounds in the skin. These minor injuries encourage the production of collagen and elastin, helping to address a host of common skin concerns.
The advanced microneedling devices used by our office are designed to improve patient outcomes while protecting comfort. During your initial consultation, we can discuss our techniques along with all of your options to help ensure you are making the best decision for your needs.
What Is Microneedling Useful For?
Microneedling can be used to address:
- Fine Lines and Deep Wrinkles
- Acne and Surgical Scars
- Enlarged Pores
- Stretch Marks
- Pigmentation Irregularities
- Sun and Age Spots
- Skin Laxity
- Uneven or Rough Texture
Most commonly used on the face, microneedling can be used to correct skin concerns in many areas of the body. The best way to learn where it may be useful for you is through a private consultation with Dr. Greene or one of his Master Estheticians.
What Happens During the Microneedling Treatment?
Before your procedure, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area. This helps to ensure optimal comfort. During the procedure, a hand-held device is gently moved over the area to create microscopic punctures at precisely determined depths. There may be some pressure during this process, but it should not be uncomfortable. Some patients may even find the treatment relaxing.
What Are the Risks of Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally-invasive cosmetic treatment with very few risks. Some redness, swelling, bruising, and skin flaking in the treatment area are normal. These things should subside on their own. Proper skin care can help to diminish these effects and improve overall comfort.
Following treatment, it is important to protect your skin from UV damage. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 40 is recommended for most adults. We can help you find the safest and most effective sunscreen for your needs during your time in our care.
How Long Is the Microneedling Recovery?
Recovery from microneedling is typically around 3-5 days. Most people can resume normal activities right away. However, it may be one to two days before you feel comfortable resuming all normal activities.
You will need to avoid certain serums, exfoliants, creams, and ointments in the first few days after your procedure. We will provide you with instructions to help ensure the most comfortable and rewarding experience possible.
Depending on your needs, it may take more than one session to achieve optimal results. During your initial consultation, we will carefully assess your problem areas to help you determine how many sessions will be required to reach your goals.
