How Does a Chemical Peel Help Your Skin?
Chemical peels offer a wealth of skin benefits to our patients. Not only can a chemical peel reveal a smoother, brighter, and more refined complexion, it can also improve the overall look and feel of your skin after just one treatment.
A chemical peel at Advanced Dermatology and Laser Institute of Seattle can:
- Relax fine lines caused by age and sun damage
- Smooth the appearance of mild acne scars
- Treat acne
- Increase skin cell turnover to reveal soft, young-looking skin
- Reduce oily skin
- Minimize the appearance of age spots, freckles, and hyperpigmentation
- Exfoliate uneven and rough skin texture
- Shrink enlarged pores
Where other skincare options fail to yield results, many of our patients have enjoyed dramatic improvement in the quality of their skin only days after their first chemical peel procedure.
What Should I Expect from a Chemical Peel?
During the application process of the peel, it is normal to experience a mild tingling sensation. A cooling unit is directed at the treatment area to help soothe and comfort you during the process.
The “VI Peel”, one of our most popular options, contains five powerful and effective components:
- Salicylic acid for exfoliation
- Trichloracetic acid for collagen stimulation and scar repair
- Retinoic acid to battle wrinkles
- Vitamin C for its antioxidant properties
- Phenolic acid for deep skin penetration
The Chemical Peel Recovery Process
Following the completion of your peel, a protectant product will be applied. Your skin may feel particularly tight on the day of your peel and the day after your treatment. Any previous skin discolorations, such as dark spots, will be more pronounced during this stage. Visible peeling will take place on the third day and gradually become more extensive as the peel progresses to completion at the seven day mark.
It is very important that you do not pick or peel your skin as this can cause scarring. A moisturizer will be recommended by your dermatologist to keep the peeling under control. For optimal results, stay on a regimen of chemical peels every one to two months in conjunction with your at-home skincare routine.
Chemical peels are not for every skin type. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Steven Greene is highly-trained to evaluate your skin beforehand for appropriate guidance and treatment recommendations.
